Jongmyo is the Royal Shrine of the Joseon Dynasty.

Jongmyo is a Confucian shrine dedicated to the royal ancestors of the Joseon Dynasty.

It's located in Seoul and is designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

The shrine houses the spirit tablets of the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty.

Confucian annually royal ancestral rites,종묘제례 were held  at Jongmyo.


종묘 was built in 1392 by king 태조, the first king of the Joseon Dynasty, and is a great example of Korean wooden architecture.

* Spirit tablets are wooden tablets with the names of the deceased kings and queens inscribed on them.

* Jongmyo offers a glimpse into the Confucian traditions and values that shaped Korea.
