여행자는 자연의 아름다움을 경험하고 힐링하면서 지역경제에 긍정적인 영향을 줍니다. 또한 자연경관 감상 외에도 야생 동물 관찰, 생태체험 프로그램 참여, 지역 문화체험 등을 할 수 있습니다. 

세계적인 에코투어리즘 장소는 아마존의 열대우림, 가랄파고스 제도, 동아프리카 케냐 등이 있습니다. 

우리나라에는 순천만 습지나 울산 태화강 같은 곳이 있습니다.
